ONLINE BOOK LAUNCH (recording available): Biennials: The Exhibitions We Love to Hate

Book Launch Recording Now Available:

Rafal Niemojewski, Director of the Biennial Foundation, is joined by art historian, writer and broadcaster Jacky Klein to discuss the fascinating phenomenon of the contemporary biennial and the polarised attention which it has attracted, and to reflect on the biennial’s possible future form in a post-Covid world.

The discussion marks the publication of Biennials: The Exhibitions We Love to Hate, by Rafal Niemojewski. This first book in the series New Directions in Contemporary Art, Biennials examines one of the most significant recent transitions in the contemporary-art world.

Rafal Niemojewski 'paints a picture of an institution that is at once more complex and more intriguing than it appears in more glancing accounts. This book will now serve not just as a clearer guide to what the biennial has been in the past but also – hopefully – to what it can be as it emerges from a pandemic that will in all likelihood profoundly affect it.' - Marcus Verhagen, Series Editor, from his Foreword to Biennials.
