The AA is the only architecture school in UK where there is a practical, structured colour course. There is a long and fascinating history of colour inspired projects at the AA. During this symposium we are going to hear about various colourful works hidden in the AA archive. We are going to consider colour as another layer of space, an important element in designer’s toolbox. We will hear about the microstructures of pigments as well as colour lights façade’s installations. We will consider how colour works in architecture and urbanisms and discuss many different approaches. Colour is omnipresent – let’s knowingly enjoy it!

Fiona McLachlan, author of Lund Humphries book Colour Beyond the Surface will be speaking about the book, with a focus on the section on Peter Wilson (Bolles Wilson) and Antoni Malinowski’s work (with Haworth Tompkins).
