Introducing Lois Dodd

We are very pleased to announce the publication of the second book in our 'Contemporary Painters' series, Lois Dodd. The book, which was released earlier this month, features paintings by the celebrated artist, including many of her landscapes and flowers.

Beginning in the 1950s, Dodd has steadfastly pursued her observational painting, remaining aloof from passing trends. She is widely admired as a ‘painter’s painter’ whose landscapes and city scenes display subtle effects of place, light and weather within graphically distilled compositions. Her work remains timeless, betraying in them no sense of era.

Based on extensive interviews and studio visits, author Faye Hirsch considers the processes, places and impulses behind Dodd's paintings as well as revealing her outwardly peaceful, reflective canvases to be the product of an alert and forceful eye and a powerfully efficient execution.
